3rd Contract with Naval-X
11/4/2024
We are happy to announce that we have secured our third contract with the U.S. Navy, developing our technologies in support of the Navy and U.S. Marine Corps (U.S.M.C.) sustainment. Naval-X, the Navy’s in-house central hub for innovation and technology development, initially selected PowerLabs in the fall of 2023, as the first startup in the nation they would directly support with funding, in their mission to get promising technologies and the startups developing them across the Valley of Death and into Navy service. Now in 2025, this third round of funding includes orders for two separate prototypes.
The first is the next generation of our mobile solar generator, the Roav, which is being optimized for U.S.M.C. applications following a fall 2024 testing event with the 4th Fleet in Key West, Florida. In addition to several other key learnings, a touch-and-go drive escaping the Keys during the first hours of Hurricane Helene helped solidify the need for re-design to bolster wind resistance. The second prototype for this contract is for a new product, which had been developed in the background and in collaboration with the Generate product development lab at Northeastern: a marine, or saltwater-capable, floating mobile for solar generator.
Naval-X has called PowerLabs a “poster child” for the type of innovative and forward-thinking they want to see and support from home-grown start-ups. We are grateful for their continued support and are excited to keep partnering with them in the name of fighting against climate change.
